Adelaide’s Dogway Reviews

Hi again. It’s Adelaide!

So this week was a strange time in my life. I went on vacation while my Mom and Dad went on their honeymoon to New York City... the home of Broadway! While I had a blast with my uncle and grandparents, I couldn’t help but dream about the Broadway shows that my parents got to see while on their trip. Here’s my review from all the stories they told me!

First show was a play called Life Sucks loosely based on Anton Chekhov’s play Uncle Vanya. Mom and Dad LOVED this show because it was funny and thought-provoking. I think it sounded alright but all the characters wouldn’t think life sucked so much if they just had a dog on stage. There were NO dogs. Of course life would suck!

The next show on their list was the revival of Oklahoma! While they didn’t have any real cows on stage, I would have loved intermission when the audience members all got served chilli and cornbread. YUM!

Show three was Fiddler on the Roof. There weren’t any dogs in this show either but there was a cool dance scene where they balanced bottles on their heads while they danced. Good thing my parents didn’t bring me or I would have jumped on stage to get one of those bottles!

Next up was Moulin Rouge. Spoiler alert but the leading lady makes her entrance from a swing in the sky and all I want to do now is be her. There was also a giant elephant and I think I could take him on.

Show five was a pair of plays/monologues called Sea Wall/A Life. They were heart breaking stories about family, love, and loss. I wish I had been there to snuggle Mom. She really needed a box of tissues after these plays!

For the sixth show, mom and dad saw Rock of Ages. That show was totally rocking and all I’d want to do is chase all the actors with big crazy hair. I love chewing hair.

On the last full day of the trip they saw Hadestown for the matinee. I think I would have had a great time running around the stage of Hadestown. They used this turning table kinda set where you could run forever but look like you’re going nowhere. How fun!

Last but certainly not least was The Play That Goes Wrong. This was by far the most excellent piece of theatre for me. First off... there was a dog character! The actors seemed to be very silly and forget to use a real dog. They did have a leash though, and filled in for all the dog’s lines. It was pretty cool. They should have just cast me though. I really loved the part when the stage comes crashing down and there are so many chewable things within an iggy’s reach. I think Mom and Dad should bring me next time and I’ll audition to play the dog in this show.
