Adelaide’s Big Premiere

The day started early with a vet appointment at 10am in Barrie. When we arrived, all the pups and our breeder were already inside and lining up the pups for their vaccinations. It was a special treat to get to play with Adelaide’s sisters and brothers while we patiently waited for her shots and microchip. Today was also weigh-in day... at 8 weeks old, Adelaide is now 3lbs 2.5oz! It was so interesting to see each pup have their own unique reactions to the whole experience. Some were very vocal and whined the entire time. Others just slept. Adelaide was chasing after shoe laces and playing with her siblings before taking the crate all for herself for a nap.

As we left the vet’s office, Jess ugly cried holding Adelaide in the parking lot. We can’t believe that she is finally ours. We promise to take care of you, sweet little thing, for the rest of your doggy days!

Adelaide whined a little bit when looking out the window of the car, but we had two chew toys and a bully stick for distraction. After about 10 minutes, and a few good show tunes, we hit the highway. Adelaide sprawled out and just like that, it was nap time! It seems that she just loves to fall asleep fully stretched out and making as much contact with you as possible.

After the car journey, we introduced her to her new home. We were very excited to see her running around the place but also nervous about when the first potty accident might happen. We kept our eyes peeled for any signs of when she might go. After a long play session and photoshoot, she scurried away quick and we realized that she had to go! We are planning to pee-pad train because we live in an apartment and it’s the best choice for us.

After all that excitement, Adelaide started to whine but we couldn’t figure out why. We tried many things; playtime, water, food, snuggles. Nothing seemed to work. She then bolted off into the living room and started hiding herself under the coffee table. Dad realized that she was trying to tell us something. Adelaide wanted a cozy spot where she could be alone. We immediately put her in her soft travel crate (covered in mesh so it’s extra cozy) and she fell back into a deep sleep.

We love our Adelaide so much already. We have so much to teach her but she’s already been teaching us. We need to work on our discipline, patience, and ability to change things up. You are such a gift, sweet little girl, and we’re so glad you came into our lives.

Until next time!
